sprains and strains
Sprains and strains are injuries to the musculoskeletal system usually resulting from auto accidents, sports impact, work-related injuries, or falls. While these terms are often used interchangeably, there is a difference between sprains and strains. Sprains are typically caused by an awkward twisting movement that stretches or tears the ligament, such as falling on an icy walkway. Strains on the other hand can result from repetitive movement or overexertion such as lifting an item that is too heavy, and refer to an injury to a muscle.
Symptoms of a sprain or strain include pain, swelling, and limited mobility. Both strains and sprains can happen in many different body regions including the spine and the extremities. A bad sprain/strain can prevent you from participating in daily activities, and require rest and therapy. It’s a common misconception that chiropractic care deals only with the neck and back, we often are the first line of defense in an ankle sprain or a rotator cuff strain. A combination of chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and naturopathic treatment is the first line of defense in repairing a sprain or strain. Our goal is to treat our patients with non-invasive therapies, preventing the need for costly and intrusive surgeries.
